Understanding terrain In Rune Seeker
Hello, The Chosen One! Terrain has the ability to enhance or diminish a Hero's power, all thanks to the rule of the Elements. Therefore, during battles, by utilizing Creation Runes, players can manipulate and transform the Terrain to maximize the advantage of allied Heroes while weakening the strength of the Enemies.
In this article, we will delve into everything you need to know about Terrain in battles within the world of Rune Seeker.
1. Battlefield
When entering battle, the field is displayed on the player's screen and is divided into two symmetrical territories, ensuring balance and fairness for the two opposing sides.

As illustrated, the field consists of small hexagonal tiles arranged in a chessboard-like pattern. These tiles are referred to as Terrain tiles. The two symmetrical territories are connected through an object in the middle known as the Observatory Tower (refer to section 3 of the article for details about the Observatory Tower).
All Terrain tiles are randomly generated by the system, ensuring each battle presents a unique challenge for the player.

Otherwise, throughout the battle, these Terrain tiles can be altered frequently based on decisions made by the player and the Observatory Tower.
2. Terrain
a) Terrain classification
There are two types of terrain on the field: Plains (non-elemental) and Elemental Terrain (, , , or ).
Plains have no levels and do not affect the Hero.
Elemental Terrain has two levels: Level 1 Terrain and Level 2 Terrain.
Heroes receive certain advantages when standing next to Terrain tiles of the same Element. Conversely, Heroes will face disadvantages when standing next to Terrain tiles of an opposite Element. The advantages (and disadvantages) that Level 2 Terrain provides are always greater than those of Level 1 Terrain.
List of Terrain types of the corresponding Element, and their effects on 1-star Heroes:
Terrain | Element | Impact on Ignis Hero
| Impact on Aer Hero
| Impact on Terra Hero
| Impact on Aqua Hero
|
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Plains | None | ||||
Level 1
Mountains | +2 Block per turn | +5% DMG taken when Hero is attacked | |||
Level 2
Mountains | +4 Block per turn | +10% DMG taken when Hero is attacked | |||
Level 1
Waters | -5% HP per turn | +3% HP per turn | |||
Level 2
Waters | -10% HP per turn | +6% HP per turn | |||
Level 1
Lava | +7% ATK | -5% ATK | |||
Level 2
Lava | +14% ATK | -10% ATK | |||
Level 1
Forest | +7% SPD | -5% SPD | |||
Level 2
Forest | +14% SPD | -10% SPD |
*Note: The beneficial stats gained from Terrain are also affected by the Hero's Elemental Affinity level (from 1->5 stars). The higher the number of stars, the more advantage that Hero receives from the Terrain of the same Element in battle. For details, read the Hero article.
b) Great Terrain
When 3 Terrain tiles of any level belonging to the same Element are adjacent to each other, they combine to form a Great Terrain. The effect of Great Terrain on Heroes is similar to that of Level 2 Terrain; however, Great Terrain cannot be altered or affected by players or the system during the battle.
For example, if three terrain tiles of the Terra element are adjacent to each other, they combine to form the Terra Great Terrain tile.

c) Terrain transform
During battle, players can use Creation Runes to transform Terrain tiles on the field, thereby increasing their side's advantage. Specifically, Creation Runes can:
Change terrain elements.
Summon various powerful entities such as Troops, Spirits, Statues, etc.
Perform other abilities such as teleporting a Hero's position, dealing damage to Heroes, etc.
Please not that Great Terrain cannot be affected by any Rune.

3. Observatory Tower

At the end of each turn, after all Heroes on both sides have completed their actions and are ready to move on to the next turn, the Observatory Tower will target any 2 objects (Hero or Terrain tile) and perform separate random effects for each subject.
If the target of the Observatory Tower is a Hero, the possible effects include:
Dealing damage equal to 10% of that Hero's maximum Health.
Recovering 20% of that Hero's maximum Health.
Removing all Debuffs that the Hero is carrying.
If the target of The Observatory Tower is a Terrain tile, the possible effects include:
Change the Element of that Terrain tile.
Upgrade that Terrain tile to level 2 (if it's already level 2, no changes occur).
Transform that Terrain tile into a Plain.
The Observatory Tower cannot affect Great Terrain neither.
